Charlotte Daruwalla
Statement of Work
Charlotte Daruwalla takes inspiration from a wide range of sources but often turns to a combination of nature, architecture and artefacts. Several pieces in recent years have been inspired by the contents of National Trust houses and she has had the opportunity to study beautifully decorated plates, vases and even musical instruments; and to draw on them for embroidery.
Textile Practice
Charlotte has experimented with a number of techniques and enjoys using them in her work. She likes machine embroidery and hand stitching equally; and beads and metallic threads feature in many of her pieces. She often uses organzas to depict birds and flowers, with machine stitching and burning, and combines them with natural fabric backgrounds which she dyes.
