Statement of Work
Denise Jones uses the process of pattern darning on the grid of linen cloth to draw attention to embroidery as mark making and a linear language. An analogy is drawn between embroidery and cloth and text across a blank page.
The pattern darning carries discreet meanings and messages relating to human connectivity, social accord and the tireless and timeless struggle to make good.
The hand embroidery technique of pattern darning is worked using the simplicity of silk thread across even-weave linen cloth.
Work has also included screen printing, dyeing and painting of the cloths.
