Mary Gray

Statement of Work

Mary explores the nature of objects through sustained acts of looking. Drawing and photography initiate her process — not as documentation, but as enquiry. From these observations, forms are pared back and distilled to their essential line. Details are stripped away, leaving a concentrated visual rhythm — a trace rather than a replica.

Textile Practice

These reductive interpretations are then transferred to cloth through paper lamination, screen printing and hand stitching. The movement from paper to textile is central: lamination introduces both fragility and rigidity, screen printing fixes the drawn line in repetition, and stitch restores the intimacy of touch.
