Statement of Work

Texture and colour are the main inspiration for Susan’s work, and she loves to find unusual surfaces and threads to work with. She really enjoys using hand embroidery in her work.

Textile Practice

Having worked as an illustrator and teacher for many years, Susan has rediscovered her love of textiles as a medium. She likes to include drawing in her work, and has always used trees as inspiration for her paintings. She is now intending to use aspects of this within her textiles.

Susan likes to work with hand embroidery and mixed media, looking for colour and texture within her work. She is experimenting with new ideas and techniques, and is enjoying the challenge of trying out new methods of working.

She is inspired by vintage textiles and has created shirts using vintage textiles combined with hand embroidery.
